(Hong Kong, 4 August 2025) Since opening their first location in Tai Hang in 2022, Nocino’s rustic, generous and home-style cuisine has won over discerning Hong Kong diners. Now, Nocino is celebrating their fourth opening, this time located on Hollywood Road in the heart of Central.

Open seven days a week, Nocino’s new prime location seating 30 diners celebrates the cuisine and culture of Ticino, a Swiss region of Alpine peaks, medieval castles and lakes lined with palm trees. Ticino’s proudly local cuisine, as served at Nocino, is known as ‘Grotto-style’.

Ticino’s agricultural way of life means that cliffside caves and grottos have long been used to store and age incredible local cheeses, charcuterie and wines. In time, these became relaxed, authentically rustic places to eat. Often found overlooking forests or by the water, these grottos feature large copper pots over open fires that are filled with slow-cooked stews and braised meats, while diners sit on communal benches.

In Hong Kong, chef and restaurateur Matthew Ziemski has taken the food, atmosphere and charm of Switzerland’s sunniest and most southerly region and celebrates it at Nocino, a restaurant named after the popular walnut-based liqueur that is crafted across the Ticino region – including by his uncle.

British-born, half Swiss and half Polish – with family proudly from Ticino - Matthew Ziemski worked in some of London and Switzerland’s most celebrated restaurants, including The Ritz and The Connaught. After moving to Hong Kong and working in a number of acclaimed restaurants here, he decided to launch his own venture which heralded his family’s heritage by opening a Ticinese-style restaurant.

Ziemski has also opened an events catering company and retail concession called Helvetica, working closely with the Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Consulate. Diners can purchase from an online list of Swiss produce, wines, Swiss Cheese from Jumi Cheese, fresh pasta and sauces made in Hong Kong and more at helveticahk.com.

The Hollywood Road opening follows the success of Nocino restaurants in Tai Hang, Kwun Tong and at BaseHall. Ziemski explains: “We’re thrilled that the people of Hong Kong have taken to the cuisine of Ticino from my Swiss homeland and look forward to letting diners enjoy our dishes and relaxed spirit of conviviality in our beautiful new space on Hollywood Road. We are a small, independent business so friendly service and genuine hospitality is in our DNA, while our fresh, modern take on the food of Ticino wins new fans every single day.”

Switzerland is globally renowned for the quality and purity of both its environment and its produce and many of these ingredients find their way to Nocino in Hong Kong. The menu evolves with the ever-changing seasons, ensuring that even regular diners get to enjoy a wide array of new dishes.

Few of them are as emblematic of Swiss cuisine as the Malakoff (HK$68), a decadent take on deep fried cheese fondue, naturally featuring Swiss gruyère cheese and Swiss Kirsch. The Cured Meat Platter (HK$138) and Swiss Artisan Cheese Board (HK$148) are another popular way to start, for those looking to sample rare Swiss cheeses from the Emmental region and sublime cured meats.

Larger plates include a fragrant Ossobuco Milanese (HK$298), namely braised veal shank served with saffron risotto. The beloved Ticino staple of buckwheat Polenta is perfectly paired with Venison Shoulder Salmi (HK$278) and creamy Fontina cheese.

Octopus & Squid Ink Ragu Creste di Gallo (HK$178) marries land and sea in delicious style, while Nocino’s Wagyu Beef Tartare (HK$148) is a refined, localised version of the classic dish thanks to a topping of crispy potatoes for texture with a special milk aioli.

A key focal point at Nocino is the freshly made pasta, which is the star of dishes such as a rich Veal Shin Ragu, Preserved Walnuts Ragù Pappardelle (HK$178), savoury Brown Crab Cacio e Pepe Bucatini (HK$188), and a comforting Roasted Jalapeno, Rocket and Almond Pesto Ondine (HK$178). Each Nocino location also offers an exclusive pasta, which in Hollywood Road will be featured as a blackboard special that rotates on a weekly basis.

For dessert, an unforgettable Tiramisu (HK$68) uses a family recipe by Matthew’s Aunt Odette, while Mont Blanc Chestnut & Blackcurrant Cheesecake (HK$68) celebrates beautiful Ticenese local produce to delicious effect. Many diners choose the option called ‘Take Me to Ticino’ (HK$520pp) which includes a selection of dishes from across the menu.

Nocino's beverage programme lets guests enjoy the rarefied world of Swiss wines and cocktails. Creations such as the Ticino Spritz (HK$98) flavoured with hibiscus and the Clear Day in Maggiore (HK$98) made with gin, lavender and sparkling wine, sit alongside Swiss wines including Oaked White, Rose and Red Merlot from Ticino and indigenous grapes from other cantons of Switzerland.

To finish the meal in true Swiss style, guests may also enjoy a digestif, including Swiss Absinthe, Pear Eau de Vie or the restaurant’s namesake, Nocino.

Murals by Cath Love, a Hong Kong-based Swiss-Thai artist famed for her character Jellyboo, feature on the exterior mural taking inspiration from Swiss paper cutting technique called scherenschnitte, while the restaurant's interior design will feature artwork by local Hong Kong artist Viv Lok depicting scenes from a Ticinese Grotto, and custom-made wooden tables and bar counter by local carpenters “awwwcreates”. Large pendant lights are a signature design motif at each Nocino location and will also be illuminating guests on Hollywood Road. In the evening, candlelight adds its own special romantic, warm allure - the perfect setting for date nights.

Nocino Hollywood Road is fully open to the public from 1 August 2025.

Founded by Chef Matthew Ziemski, Nocino is a Hong Kong-grown restaurant brand that celebrates the rustic, home-style cuisine of the Ticino region in southern Switzerland. After opening its first location in Tai Hang in 2022, Nocino quickly became a favourite among discerning diners who were drawn to its intimate atmosphere and unique culinary offering. Nocino’s second and third locations opened in Kwun Tong and BaseHall, respectively, in 2024. The restaurant's fourth location recently opened on Hollywood Road in Central, showcasing the traditional 'Grotto-style' dining of Ticino, featuring slow-cooked stews, fresh pasta, and high-quality local ingredients.

Nocino offers an inviting atmosphere characterised by friendly service and a commitment to genuine hospitality.
